Mayo Animal Welfare is a voluntary organization whose members are dedicated
to the welfare of animals in County Mayo. It was established in 1994
by Noëline Haylett.
The work of the organization mainly involves:
- The rescue of abandoned, cruelly treated and injured animals.
- Caring for pets in case of sickness/death of owner.
- Rehoming of animals - Where at all possible, animals are re-homed
in good secure caring homes. If this is not possible, due to ill health
or insufficient number of good homes, animals are humanely put to
sleep with an injection administered by a Vet.
- Releasing wildlife such as swans, hares, seabirds etc. into their
natural habitats after treatment for injuries.
- Donkeys are referred to the Donkey Sanctuary, Cork, which covers
the whole of Ireland
- Goats when rescued are rehomed where possible.
- Regular spaying/neutering discount campaigns where people receive
a 40% discount of the normal spaying/neutering price.
Funding for MAW relies mainly on donations and fundraising. All funds
are raised through Church Gate Collections, Flag Days, Bazaars,
etc. Money raised or received is used to pay vet bills for spaying/neutering,
vaccinations or medicine required for sick animals.
We are grateful for the Department of Agriculture's support of €6,000
towards our work.
As Mayo does not have an Animal Sanctuary Noëline takes rescued
animals into her own home and cares for them at her own expense. If
you can, please help us by subscribing to Mayo Animal Welfare, as little
as €1 per month can make a difference.
